Hi Charlotte,
I wanted to tell you about an organization called AdoptaPlatoon.org. You can go on line and look it up and adopt a soldier. It really doesn't matter what our feelings are about the war we need to support our soldiers. Remember our class mates in Viet Nam bet they remember the letters and care packages they received. I wrote to several soldiers back then mostly relatives but still they all say how much they appreciated the letters and cookies we sent. Dennis and I have adopted two soldiers both in the Army in Iraq. Our female is a Medic deployed just outside of Baghdad and she is 25 yrs old from Texas and to be married next summer when she gets home. Our male is in the only Air Born Veterinarian Unit and is about 48 kil from Baghdad and 37 yrs old he's a father of 2 married for 10 yrs and from Illinois. We send emails to each other 3 or 4 times a week I also send cards of encouragement and thanks and care packages once a month. They love pictures and I just sent some of Washington D.C. and Ground Zero both before 9/11 right after and now under construction that our neighbor took while touring with his 8 the grade class. We had a car show in San Dimas and we took pictures and bought them both t-shirts and sent that to them. Roy really liked the car show pictures said they were better than the "TRACTOR SHOWS" he had gone to in Illinois. hahaha And now we have adoted Platoon of 18 for Treats for Halloween. Don't know if any of our class mates would be interested in supporting our troops BUT I feel it is a good cause and only takes a few minutes a week to send prayers, thoughts and thanks. And a few dollars to pack a box full of snacks, personal hygiene, books, c.d.'s, movies, socks and local news papers. (One less trip out to eat a month). Hope all is well with you and your family.
